Alabama Educators Dive into AI at Summer Conference

Leaders from Day of AI including former Massachusetts Commissioner of Education Jeff Riley and Day of AI’s Head of Research Dr. Randi Williams shared forward-thinking insights on how this new technology is transforming education in Alabama and across the United States, while addressing both the opportunities and the risks that come with the increasingly widespread use of AI.

Day of AI’s online AI literacy curriculum currently serves users in over 170 countries worldwide and all 50 states across America.  Building on this strong foundation, Day of AI has embarked on an ambitious campaign of in-person engagement in 2025 to deepen its impact across the United States and the world.  These efforts have included district-level training in more than two dozen Massachusetts communities, a March summit for superintendents from across New Hampshire, and an April superintendent summit in Connecticut.  Today’s Alabama engagement marked an important continuation of Day of AI’s nationwide initiative to emphasize AI literacy and educational equity across diverse regions and school communities.

“Day of AI is committed to ensuring that all students have the chance to develop the skills needed to succeed in an AI-driven future,” said former Massachusetts Commissioner of Education Jeff Riley. “Having the opportunity to visit Alabama and meet with school leaders here as we share best practices is an important milestone for Day of AI in our mission to work with thoughtful school leaders and together create a future-ready generation.”

AI researcher Dr. Randi Williams added, “The promise of AI in education lies not only in innovation but in equity.  Our goal is to empower all educators and students with the knowledge they need to flourish in a world driven by AI.”

About the Organizations

Born at MIT in 2021 through the Institute’s RAISE (“Responsible AI for Social Empowerment and Education”) initiative, Day of AI enables K-12 students, families, and educators to thrive in the age of artificial intelligence.  Day of AI became a stand-alone nonprofit in 2024, while still working closely with MIT’s best-in-class team of researchers.  Day of AI’s mission is to equip educators with the knowledge and tools to integrate AI responsibly into their classrooms, fostering critical thinking and digital literacy among students and broader school communities.

School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA) is a professional non-profit organization comprised of superintendents and school system leaders from across Alabama who are committed to improving education for Alabama’s children. Its purpose is to give superintendents quality professional learning opportunities, to provide a leading voice in sound public policy development and advocacy, and to provide meaningful collaboration and networking opportunities. SSA is the only association in Alabama for all school superintendents and members of their leadership team. There are approximately 1525 members, including 138 public school systems, individual, retired, associate, and business members.

This SSA session was sponsored by Edia, a leading AI platform for K-12 school districts that improves outcomes for math, attendance, and MTSS.
