Student Voices in AI is an in-school youth council program that prepares middle and high school students to take part in AI policymaking at their schools.

Grade 1: Learning from Patterns

In these unplugged lessons, students learn that technology is programmed to identify patterns in examples and it uses those patterns to make predictions.

Ages 13-14 (Grade 8)

Grade 8: AI and Human Oversight

Students deepen their understanding of AI by looking beyond what AI can do to investigate what resources it depends on, and how it affects people and society

Ages 11-12 (Grade 6)

Grade 6: Behind the Screens-How AI Works

Students investigate how machines learn from data through supervised learning and develop their own machine-learning model.

Ages 12-13 (Grade 7)

Grade 7: Thinking Critically About AI

Students compare rule-based, data-driven, and hybrid technologies and investigate why generative AI can produce convincing but inaccurate information.

Ages 14-18 (High School)

AI for High School: Privacy and Ethics

Students analyze facial recognition technology, algorithmic bias, and the tradeoffs among privacy, safety, fairness, and efficiency.

Students examine how AI is transforming careers and workplace tasks while building human skills for responsible, creative, and effective AI use.

Students move from understanding how artificial intelligence works to evaluating when, why, and whether it should be used.
