Professional Learning

MIT RAISE offers professional learning opportunities for schools and school districts interested in basic AI literacy for their administrators, teachers, students, and families, as well as approaches to developing policies and best practices in using AI and AI tools in their schools.

Please see more about our offerings below, and contact us if you would like to bring Day of AI professional learning to your school or district!

Basic AI Literacy

2 hours, in-person or remote

In this session, we introduce teachers to the basics of how AI works, and how it impacts our lives on a regular basis. We also lead teachers through a reflective activity in which they consider the implications for teaching & learning posed by what they have learned about AI.

Using AI Effectively in the Classroom

6 hours, in-person or remote

With so many AI tools available at our students’ fingertips, it’s easy to get concerned about how students could use AI tools to circumvent learning and metacognitive skill development. However, rather than trying to stop the inevitable and banning AI from entering your student’s lives, it’s crucial to figure out how to thoughtfully integrate AI in a way that enhances, rather than circumvents, metacognitive growth. This workshop introduces teachers to a framework for how to approach that integration.

This session builds on our Basic AI Literacy workshop by creating space for teachers to take what they have learned about AI and use it to enhance their curricula. After some basic demystification, teachers take time to think critically about their own lesson plans, find ways to integrate what they have learned about AI, and then get feedback from each other and facilitators from the MIT RAISE team.

This workshop can be offered as a full-day professional development (PD) or as 2 synchronous sessions with some asynchronous work for teachers in-between.

AI and Teacher Prep

6 hours, in-person or remote

In the past few years, numerous AI-enabled tools have been developed claiming to save teachers time by helping with tasks such as grading, lesson design, lesson prep, and lexile leveling, among others. How can we be sure that these tools will save teachers time? How can we use them while ensuring proper differentiation, and relationship-driven teaching?

This session builds on our Basic AI Literacy workshop by creating space for teachers to take what they have learned about AI and start experimenting with AI tools designed for teacher planning. After some basic demystification, teachers explore using AI tools in their own planning process, before coming back together to critically reflect with each other on how AI tools can best support teacher prep time.

This workshop can be offered as a full-day PD or as 2 synchronous sessions with some asynchronous work for teachers in-between.

AI in Your School

30 hours in-person

This immersive, weeklong PD experience expands upon both our classroom and teacher prep courses. It is a comprehensive experience in which teachers will:

  • Learn the basics of AI Literacy
  • Do some basic skill building through experiencing Day of AI courses as participants
  • Explore AI tools for educators to determine if they can be helpful for teachers in planning
  • Plan for AI Literacy implementation in classrooms informed by group conversations on scope & sequence across grade bands and content area

After this PD, teachers will be ready and feel confident to implement AI Literacy in the classroom with depth and clarity.
