In this lesson, students will Identify and describe key women pioneers in AI and computer science. Through course work, they will understand the impact of these women’s contributions to technology today. Finally, they will identify why diversity in AI and computer science is important.

Students will design and develop (advanced option) a simple chatbot that shares facts about influential women in AI and their contributions. Through this activity, students will learn about AI concepts, chatbot functionality, and the impact of women in AI history.

Students will review key AI concepts, including what AI and machine learning are, and explore how AI is used to address environmental issues. They will analyze both the positive and negative environmental impacts of AI, brainstorm potential solutions, and compare their ideas to real-world applications. Finally, students will reflect on their role in advocating for responsible AI usage.

In this lesson, students will explore the environmental impact of technology use by conducting a personal technology audit to evaluate their carbon footprint. They will reflect on their habits and consider making changes to reduce their impact on the planet by creating their own sustainability pledge.

This mini-curriculum, intended for middle and high school grades, engages students with critical topics at the intersection of AI, elections, and democracy. Through a global lens, students examine how AI can influence elections and how it differs from earlier technologies.

Students apply their knowledge by analyzing materials from a mock school election and identifying where and how AI was utilized. Finally, students assess legislative efforts related to AI in elections, discussing the positive and negative effects of regulating AI in this context.
