- AI Student Senate: Classroom & Community Guides
Age:
In summer 2026, 98 Student Senators representing all 50 states gathered at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute in Boston to debate and pass the STUDENTS FIRST Act, a first-of-its-kind student-developed policy framework for responsible AI use in Kâ12 education.
Building on this experience, and in an effort to spread this student voice movement beyond July's Boston gathering, Day of AI and the Edward M. Kennedy Institute have collaboratively developed two guides to help students ages 12 and up participate in AI policymaking.
The Classroom Edition provides a structured instructional unit designed for a single class of approximately 20â30 students, while the Community Edition supports organizing a larger Student Senate of approximately 30â100 students from multiple schools or community organizations. Both approaches empower students to explore AI policy, consider diverse perspectives, debate proposals, and make their voices heard in shaping the future of AI.
