Summary
Student Voices in AI is an in-school youth council program that empowers middle and high school students to guide how AI is used in their schools. Through a 12-week experience grounded in technical literacy, ethical reflection, and civic decision-making, students build the knowledge and confidence to shape responsible AI policies that reflect their school community's values.
The program fosters youth leadership, open dialogue, and shared power between students and adults, creating space for thoughtful discussion, real-world engagement, and ongoing reflection. By centering student perspectives and aligning with global efforts such as the UNESCO AI Competency Framework for Students, the initiative supports students as informed, ethical participants in the future of AI in education and society.
Students will:
- Explore the opportunities and challenges of AI in learning
- Learn how school policies are developed
- Research perspectives on AI from students, educators, families, and administrators
- Draft and present their own AI policy proposals and/or school initiatives to support the responsible use of AI
