Summary
This unit introduces young learners to foundational ideas about what machines are and how machines learn. Through hands-on, developmentally appropriate activities, students explore key concepts such as data, patterns, predictions, datasets, and algorithms. Students first learn that machines are tools made by people to help do work or solve problems. They then explore how machines “learn” by looking at information (data), finding patterns, and following clear steps (algorithms).
Lesson Flow
Lesson 1: What is a machine?
Lesson 2: Machines Make Predictions
Lesson 3: Dataset Sort
Lesson 4: What is an algorithm?
