Using AI for Creativity

Students discover how artificial intelligence can enhance imagination and storytelling through creative exploration via an AI-powered app.

Age:

Approximate Total Time: 3–4 hours

Summary:

In this unit designed for younger students, learners explore what it means to be creative and how both humans and AI generate new ideas. Through hands-on activities and interactive tools, students compare how humans think and how AI “understands” instructions, practice giving clear directions to AI tools, and reflect on the similarities and differences between human and machine creativity. The unit culminates in a collaborative storytelling project using the Yarn AI platform, where students create an original class story that blends imagination and technology.

Lessons:

Lesson 1: What Is Creativity? – Define creativity, generate original ideas, and explore how people use imagination in everyday life.

Lesson 2: Do We Think Like AI? – Experiment with Google Quick Draw to compare human and AI thinking.

Lesson 3: Writing Clear Instructions When Using AI Creatively – Practice writing prompts and commands that help AI tools produce the desired creative output.

Lesson 4: Yarn Class Project – Apply creativity and AI skills to co-author a class story using an AI storytelling app.
